About the Author
Fredric Wertham, M.D., is presently consulting psychiatrist at Queens Hospital Center, Jamaica, New York City. He was the pioneer in the study of violence, about which he has written many books, including The Show of Violence, A Sign for Cain, and Seduction of the Innocent.

'ZINES FOR EVER!

From the man who wrote the infamous seduction of the innocent, mr. Frederic Wertham, M.D. another book about the comic but here he has changed his mind. The fanzines and comcs are not the evil but another thing, very interesting, to study to know about the young and society. A interesting sociological essay about this particular product of the society in which they originate, the 'zines succeded in, "whether intended or not, a reaction against this society, in an age of violence they are claerly non violent and in a period of permissiveness they neither promothe drugs abuse or take advantage of their freedom of expression" (from the note inside the book). Published in 1973 is still "modern" nowadays

A worthwhile effort by Dr. Frederick Wertham

This was one of the first books about fanzines. I finally got a copy after hearing so many people tell me things about my publishing that they read in Dr. Wertham's book. It's interesting to see how he came full circle regarding his opinion of comic book readers and fans. It seems that in the end, his interest in pop culture was more than strictly clinical.
