I am studying dynamic of structure and this book help me alot

it's very good

This book is used for the undergraduate and graduate courses is seismic analysis.

Some of the chapter sections on the more advanced topics are a bit hard to understand (sometimes there's a few steps in math skipped), but mostly it's b/c the topics are not that easy to explain on paper. I'm not a big fan of response spectra myself. It also probably doesn't help that we'd skip segments. I'm sure if you read the book end-to-end, that would make it a bit more understandable. Understand that some of the seismic topics aren't going to be interesting to the common layman unless you are really passionate about analysis.

Overall though, Prof. Chopra does a wonderful job of walking a person through single degree, then multiple degree of freedom systems and how to apply matrix algebra and differential equations to the solutions of basic problems.

It's not one of my favorite books. It's good, but not an especially favorite topic, personally.

Plus I have to give this book an outstanding review b/c Prof. Chopra was the one of the only professors who genuinely cared about his students back in those times at U.C. Berkeley. He always made time for his students and was a joy to just sit and chat with. Alot of effort was put into making this book, and was time well spent.

Classic Ruskin Bond, just even shorter one page notes

Takes you to the hills and nature again. It helped me feel at peace on rough days and when my mind was racing. There is a philosophical angel in some notes which also is nice.

It's literally brief notes, hence if someone doesn't like to read and ponder and hang around on same page for long then, you'll brush through it but may not enjoy since not much continuity.

About the Author

Jenny Bird has successfully coached CEOs, senior executives and other leaders since 2000. She supervises coaches internationally to develop their competence and enhance their coaching presence. Great toolkit for business coaches

A really versatile toolkit whether you are practicing as a coach or using coaching techniques in your workplace. The diagrams and models mean that the approaches stuck in my memory really easily. There's lots of detailed insights for one-to-one or group situations and also for self-coaching. The chapter themes also make it easy to find the idea you want that relates to the particular challenge your facing. I'm sure I'll be reaching for this book regularly.

Mencken rocks!

Not much more can be said about Mencken that Kevin didn't cover in his review. This two volume set replaces a "selected" version that I had in my Mencken collection. I will pass the selected version along to a friend. Mencken is a true word smith in the highest order. He has a way of presenting things that has me rolling on the floor in laughter, pounding my fists on my armchair in anger and shaking my head in disbelief as he exposes tedious frauds, ignoramuses, cheap rouges, hypocrites, and other grasping, selfish, dishonest mammals that are hell-bent on robbing us of the fruit or our labors. For those who aren't familiar with Mencken, I highly recommend this set.

Too much neglected author

I bought these volumes for a friend and ended up reading almost all of both for myself as we passed them between us. Mencken is a writer whom I had heard mentioned regularly but took him to be more a dated source of witticism than a lasting voice to be heard with respect. These essays and pieces give a fascinating insight into the US political and literary scene in the pre-WW1period and its aftermath. Mencken should be given much more prominence as pungent observer of the society in which he lived and as an interpreter of trends and fallibilities in its governance which continue to dictate patterns of political behaviour.

Excellent companions

I was largely unfamiliar with Mencken's writings until recently but I decided to take a chance on these two volumes. How lucky I am that I did! These essays are wonderful. H.L. Mencken is a writer I can enjoy without feeling he is talking down to me... intelligent and witty discourse makes his Prejudices a engaging and educational at once. Even the format is perfect... well-bound and small, but not paperback-sized. I will be enjoying these for many years to come.
