About the Author
John Bennet Ramsey was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1943. He attended Michigan State University and graduated with a Masters Degree. In 2009, he completed discipleship training at YWAM's University of the Nations. The suffering in his life has given Ramsey a unique platform to speak to other suffering people, offering them encouragement and hope. He now considers this his calling and a way to serve God. Ramsey is the proud father of his surviving children Melinda, John Andrew, and Burke.

A Story Never Before Told

On Christmas night 1996, six-year-old JonBenét Ramsey was violently murdered in the basement of her Boulder, Colorado, home while the rest of her family slept upstairs in their beds. Her father, John Ramsey, was placed under an umbrella of suspicion as being her killer. Her mother, Patsy Ramsey, who was battling ovarian cancer at the time, was publicly placed under that same umbrella. The Other Side of Suffering is John Ramsey's story of the tremendous suffering and heartache he has endured in his life. But this is not just the story of a singular horrific event, and it is not the story you've heard over and over from the news media. It is, in a story never before told, John Ramsey's personal journey of suffering, courage, and faith.

Extremely well written and filled with emotion, this book contains many sad and incredible stories told to illustrate John Ramsey's journey through suffering and faith. Although I initially approached reading this book with skepticism, I soon found myself reading through tear-filled blurry eyes. By the time I had finished reading, I had openly wept several times throughout the book.

This book was written as an encouragement to those who might otherwise abandon their faith in God in times of crisis and tragedy. The author elucidates the fact that life is not always fair, life is not always easy, but God is always good.

Not recommended, read Kolar's book instead

Sorry, but there should be aa statute of limitations on public relations campaigns and obfuscation.

I work in the legal field and have read the transcripts of the Ramsey case. This case has not had closure, and the American public deserves the truth. Today's tv media promoting Ramsey's book really has been unsavory, and I recommend anyone truly interested in the facts of this case, reads the new release written by James Kolar: "Foreign faction: Who really kidnapped JonBenet Ramsey".

After reading the evidence, and knowing that MANY records mysteriously disappeared very early in this case, there can be only a one conclusion. This latest ghost-written book by Ramsey's defense team is nothing but image control. If the reader is interested in facts of this disturbing case, please read James Kolar's new book. He tells the truth, and has no reason fabricate an image, or to lie to the public.

Not Convincing

Unlike some reviewers, I am not among those who have ardently followed the details of this case over the years. However, I have always thought that something didn't ring true about the whole tale, and I could certainly see why the authorities considered the Ramseys suspect. This book did nothing to dispel that impression and in fact reinforced my doubts about their story.

Mr. Ramsey has inarguably suffered painful losses, and I believe he has relied heavily on faith to survive. Apparently this book was written with the purpose of sharing how his spiritual growth has sustained him and how the losses have inspired him to persevere. I believe he mostly succeeded with that message; however I felt it also came across as every bit as much an attempt to justify his and his wife's actions, as well as an effort to convince us that they were victims of a vast conspiracy against them. He often sounds petulant and sarcastic, never missing an opportunity to take the authorities to task for having a preconceived agenda. And he is absolutely merciless with the media - even accusing them of enhancing the photos of JonBenet in her pageant regalia to make her look more made up than she actually was. (Still, no amount of photographic manipulation would change the fact that an innocent six-year-old child was dressed up with bleached blonde hair and full stage makeup, then put on public display in a beauty competition.) On the other hand when referring to himself or his wife, he tends to portray their actions as above reproach and always justifiable - never missing an opportunity to use the excuse of being a grieving parent to gloss over any perceived unusual behavior on their part.

Whether or not any of my observations are accurate, my point is that there is so much of that type of innuendo that it made me doubt the sincerity of his intentions in publishing this particular book. Sort of a general impression of "thou protests too much." Overall, while I appreciate Mr. Ramsey's need to share his journey of faith, it left me not with a feeling of closure, but rather, still wondering if the full story will ever really be known.

The story line was awesome and just attention grabbing

This was a very well written book. The story line was awesome and just attention grabbing. I will be sharing with my reading circle. Nice easy read and makes for a warm cozy feel. When I first started reading them I wasn't sure but now I am in love with them. I love this book with great story lines and can't put them down once I start reading them. The main characters were very awesome. It is entertaining and well thought-of. It is very easy to read and to understand. A great read for everyone. .

The author of this book is brilliant and I have read some of her books before. As usual this book is amazing and the story line of this book is awesome. Inside of this book I have found a hot and steamy alpha billionaire romance story.
The main character of this story is Ritz and her eyes caught the sight of a handsome boy. Inside of this story I have found some twists also. The situation goes exciting when Ritz came to know that the handsome man is alpha billionaire. She decided to stay with him. Actually, I like to read romance story and by reading this story I am pleased.

What a book, very in-testifying story. There are scenes after scenes. Both Ryan and Ritz's point of view. Amazing short story to read and would have continued to read if it didn't stop at 40 pages, in-fact i wish it continued as the final part RYAN IS A MURDERER really made the story double the intensity. I would tell the Author Anna Collins, a very good job done as you truly have written and inspirational and romantic story.

In addition, a preliminary study sets the Tapestry in its artistic, cultural and historical context. The late Lucien Musset, Emeritus Professor of the University of Caen, studied the Tapestry of nearby Bayeux for nearly fifty years. About the Author
Lucien Musset is Professor of Medieval History at the University of Caen. He has written extensively on the period and has made a major contribution to Viking and Norman studies. He is editor of the Bulletin de la Societe des Antiquaries de Normandie.

Richard Rex is University Lecturer in Church History at the Faculty of Divinity, University of Cambridge. He is also Director of Studies in History at Queens' College, Cambridge.

A masterpiece about a masterpiece

If one cannot see the Bayeux Tapestry in person (and I have been privileged enough to have done so), this book may well be the next best thing. Beautiful, two-page spreads highlight the colour, the detail and the magnificence of the what is perhaps the most famous tapestry in the world.

The Bayeux Tapestry itself is over 70 yards long - that is long enough to be hung from the window of a twenty-story building and still be able to touch the ground. Threads of wool embroidered onto the precious linen are brilliantly transformed into a work of art - were this an abstract representation or simple story-telling device, the work would still be famous and remarkable. Yet it has the added advantage of combining unparalleled craftsmanship with a pivotal story in history - the tale of the Norman Conquest, the last successful invasion of Britain.

The story on Tapestry begins in 1064, with the English king Edward the Confessor, much loved and respected, trying to ensure a peaceful succession. The next two years would see other events transpire, ending with the death of King Harold, shot by an arrow in the Battle of Hastings. The details are fascinating, including the appearance of a comet (which turned out to be one of the periodic appearances of Halley's Comet) shortly after Harold's coronation - comets in this period were usually seen as signs of foreboding and doom, and certainly that was the case for Harold.

William the Conqueror is certainly the hero of this Tapestry, and the origins of the Tapestry are still a mystery. There are historical events throughout the Tapestry, and Musset's text looks at most of the Tapestry in 58 sections, going into great detail about what is presented in the embroidery. For example, Harold is shown dying with an arrow through the eye - history does confirm this type of death, and an early engraving of the Tapestry doesn't show the arrow wound for Harold, but given that perjurers and frauds were thought to die of wounds to the eyes, the later addition of the arrow may have been a propaganda move to help justify William's rightful claim to the throne.

Lucien Musset was a professor at the University of Caen, and had a life-long love affair with the Bayeux Tapestry, spending nearly 50 years in study and reflection. This book represents a stunning life-long labour of love, and one that is magnificent in both word and visual form. Musset's text develops historical, artistic and social themes for each of the sections, and adds a richness to the experience of surveying the Tapestry. It is not to be missed.

Wonderful

This is a marvelous book on the Bayeux Tapestry. Each frame has its own page with a copy os the tapestry, the Latin original and English translation provided. A very good history of the tapestry, comparisons to other tapestries and even the type of stitch used is provided. I bought the book to prepare for a visit to the actual tapestry in 2010 and I couldn't be better pleased with it.

THE BAYEUX TAPESTRY could also have been featured in our history shelf; but it's reviewed here for its appeal and importance to fiber artists as well. The Tapestry is one of the most notable achievements of the Norman Romanesque period, surviving intact for over nine centuries when even cities have fallen. It was entrusted by Napoleon to the citizens of Bayeux and today is displayed in a local gallery. The history of 11th century England and Normandy is surveyed along with the artistic importance of the Tapestry in a title which doesn't intend to revolutionize the study of the piece, but to survey reliable scholarship on the subject. Chapters take a scene-by-scene approach and analyze both historical and artistic elements of the Tapestry while Richard Rex's translation provides smooth enlightenment.
