About the Author
Katherine Ackley taught in the English Department at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point from 1979 to 2002 and also served as coordinator of the Women's Studies Program for 10 years and assistant dean of Graduate Studies for five years. Her research interests center on women in literature, with emphasis on literary representations of women's issues and, more recently, British crime writers. Her books include THE NOVELS OF BARBARA PYM (1989), WOMEN AND VIOLENCE IN LITERATURE: AN ESSAY COLLECTION (1990), MISOGYNY IN LITERATURE: AN ESSAY COLLECTION (1992), and ESSAYS FROM CONTEMPORARY CULTURE (2004, 5th Edition). The author of dozens of published articles, she received more than 20 grants for research and development and was the first woman to receive the UWSP University Scholar Award. Dr. Ackley earned a master's degree in English from Purdue University and a Ph.D. in English from Ball State University.

About the Author
Lee Zlotoff is an award-winning writer, producer and director of film and television with over a hundred primetime credits to his name. Among his more notable creations is the iconic MacGyver TV series that has continued to run around the world for over 30 years since its debut in 1985. Lee is also a recipient of the coveted Audience Award from the Sundance Film Festival for his film 'The Spitfire Grill' which has gone on to become a highly successful musical. Lee is a graduate of St. John's College, with campuses in Annapolis, MD and Santa Fe, NM, where he served on the board of directors for over a decade and is now a member of the President's Council. As the father of four grown children, and now the grandfather of four, Lee is committed to supporting those who strive to improve global futures and outcomes. This is why he -and his children-have formed The MacGyver Foundation, which receives a portion of the proceeds from every MacGyver project.

Dr. Colleen M. Seifert is the SCIENCE ADVISOR for The MacGyver Secret. As a cognitive scientist, she offers expertise informing the development of the book and workshops. Colleen is an Arthur F. Thurnau Professor at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She received her Ph.D. in Psychology from Yale University. After a postdoctoral fellowship, Colleen moved to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, was promoted to the rank of full professor in 2001. In my experience, this absolutely works.

Living in Santa Fe – a mecca for gurus and woo woos – I have a natural incredulity regarding anything that’s presented as a ‘secret’. And, I confess, I started from that perspective with the MacGyver Secret. But the fact is, I’ve been using the technique for a while now – and it works!

I met the creator, Lee Zlotoff, and he outlined the process one night in his kitchen. I went home and tried it, and . . . nothing. A couple months later, he coached a small group through the process, and I asked the same question and got the same outcome . . . nothing. I tried it one other time and got the same result, so gave up on it.

Then several months ago, I was at an entrepreneur / startup event in Albuquerque and Lee was one of the speakers. This time he not only outlined the process and coached us through it, he explained the neuroscience. I’ve been studying neuroscience for a while, and what he said made total sense to me. Especially when he explained the time frames.

‘If it’s simple question,’ he said, ‘like, “How do I make this scene work?”, the answer will probably emerge pretty quickly. But if it’s a big, strategic life question, it may take three or four or five attempts.’

So, I wrote out my question (for the fourth time) and then forgot about it. About four hours later, in the middle of another presentation, I suddenly pulled out my notepad and wrote out a strategic vision / mission statement. And it was THE answer to my fundamental question – now that I’ve retired, what is the life work that will allow me to apply my passion, my purpose and my talent?

Eight months later, I’m still operating out of that answer and loving it. And I’m using the MacGyver Secret for other questions in my life. When I need a title for an article or the punchline for a speech, I no longer sit at my computer staring in frustration at the blinking cursor. I write the question as specifically as possible, then go for a walk or head down to my studio to paint. And somewhere along the way, the answer emerges.

Wonderful for Creative Stumbling Blocks

In many ways, I was familiar with MacGyver's Secret because I've experienced similar success with creative ideas after routine events like driving, a familiar yoga practice, and taking naps. The process reminded me of a workshop with Sandra Cisneros when she told the audience that when she came to a difficult problem or chapter in her books, she'd take a nap. Upon waking she always had a fresh solution. Since I heard this advice in 2005, I've been a proponent of the nap to answer a question. What was so wonderful about this book was it affirmed many of the things I'd had little explanation for besides the divine force that envelops all of us. I like the specifics and structure, especially as a researcher, writer and speaker because I often get "stuck" not necessarily when I'm writing, but when I'm attempting to organize. I've used the process to outline and write a sequence of plot events and research steps, and it WORKS! Thank you Lee for a wonderful addition to the "Manifest Your Reality" literature, but this time you help us discover our reality!

Great results before I even finished the book!!

I have been waiting for this book. I heard a while ago that the author was working on a way for each of us to tap our inner MagGyver, and have been chomping at the bit to read it ever since. I am an old-school MacGyver fan, and Lee has been a hero of mine ever since he created the show (I even enjoy the reboot!)
This book does not disappoint. I downloaded it pre-flight feom LAX to Oakland, and by the time we landed, my inner Mac had already provided me with a great idea to a financial challenge that had been bugging me recently. I HAVEN'T EVEN FINISHED THE BOOK YET!
I am a results-oriented business for creative entrepreneurs, and I KNOW I will be recommending this book to all my clients.
I am looking forward to seeing what happens on the next leg of my flight from Oakland to my home in Nashville.

About the Author
PATRICIA ST. JOHN (1919-1993) was a nurse, missionary and author. She earned a nursing degree at St. Thomas¿ Hospital in London in 1946. In the early 1950¿s she moved to Tangier, Morocco where she served as a missionary nurse for 27 years. Throughout her life, she travelled extensively in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, as the settings of her novels reflect. In 1977, she returned to England, where she cared for elderly relatives and ministered from her home to youths, single parents, and the elderly. Patricia authored numerous books, including Treasures of the Snow, The Tanglewoods¿ Secret, The Secret at Pheasant Cottage, and Star of Light.

A book about children, but anyone will enjoy!

I was given a copy of The Tanglewoods' Secret when I was probably 10 or 12. I read it and loved it then. I'm now nearly 29. I just picked it up again tonight, and read it cover to cover. The struggles of the main character, a nine-year-old girl, to learn to overcome her fiery temper and selfish spirit, and her discovery of the Shepherd who can and does teach her (and others) how to be good, can speak to anyone who ever wanted their own way over another's. If you are looking for a good, pastoral story with a truly uplifting message (so hard to find today!), then order this book.

Excellent allegory of the parable of the lost sheep

I have never read a more meaningful and thought provoking allegory of the Saviors parable of the lost sheep. In addition the story contains very beautiful and uplifing examples of what can happen when we let ourselves be found by Him. I am very grateful that I found this book.

Awesome Read aloud book for family

This is our first year of homeschooling our two youngest children, ages 10 (boy) &8 ( girl). Both children loved the book and did not want me to quit reading until it was finished. We laughed and cried and fell in love with the characters. It is very hard to find books that both children enjoy listening to me reading. The characters are believable, the story heartfelt. We have since read several other of St James books and enjoyed them as well.
I highly recommend this author for wholesome, enjoyable stories.

W I L T O N *** Director of Sales & Marketing FAILS***

First and foremost I must say Wilton is my number one choice for most tools and products. They have my respect for holding years & years of teaching standards above most in the industry. However, that being said, this DVD probably should have not made it past the first stage in the Marketing Division. It somewhat baffles me why Wilton didn't set a higher standard for a *professional* to demonstrate procedures in a longer DVD (or a series of DVD's) that you see the technics Begining to End with a professional look. I actually feel sorry for the women in this video and am very dissapointed in Wilton. I seriously wondered at one point if the cakes she was showing AFTER her short demomstrations of *sloopy technics* were actually cakes SHE did and not ones a professional did. If I didn't know better and this were the first time hearing or seeing a Wilton presentation, I would be looking elsewhere for my baking needs. What a shame.....

One would only hope that if Wilton considers doing something of same again, or if they have and I have not seen it, that it's presentation and professional standards are as notable as the Wilton name has been for years.

BUY IT.

I want to get into cake decorating and didn't know where to start. My daughter had her first birthday and I wanted to make her a cake. Although I've been baking for a while I've never decorated a cake. I was really nervous I would mess up. It came out great for the first time. I definetly recommend this for beginners.

It took me about 40 minutes to read this lesson plan thoroughly; while it is inexpensive at under five dollars, I still don't know if that is necessarily a good value. As some reviewers have pointed out, much of the book focuses on advertising Wilton products; without all of this the useful material in the book could have been condensed down to a couple of pages. I did like the photographs and the techniques for making different consistencies of buttercream for different uses. I had initially planned on getting the subsequent lesson plans as well, but I don't think it will be worth it. If you have any skill/experience with cake decorating at all, I'd recommend skipping this book.
