Love this Creative Expoloration of Resin!

Ever since I saw my first superchunky, gorgeous colored resin bangle, available for sale at an online store back in the early 2000's, I have been intrigued by the mystique of always different resin jewelry. Yes I kick myself to this day that I never bought that bangle!

Now I spot brilliant fabulous clear resin jewlery, with pretty silver embellishments, and inlaid semiprecious stones, for sale online. I see resin as well on etsy with yummy looking real candy pieces or sprinkles and glitter floating cheerily in the molded colorful bangles or pendants.

Well, I have finally broken down and bought my own how to book, from the best teacher around, and I am thrilled! Now that I own this award winning book, The Art of Resin Jewelry, by Sherri Haab, I can stop looking and start doing! Having already "devoured" this great book, I plan to get to work (or to play!) as soon as possible! I am hoping to stretch my imagination to the fullest, and to see what I can do as well, with resin as my launching pad!

Sherri Haab is the perfect guide for a neophyte like me! I need HER clear writing style. I need the fun of seeing the variety of her projects, such as her high art "Pod Bead" bracelet, shown in two colors, and her ultra hip Techno Polymer Clay Bezels (which obviously use more than just resin as the medium you work with). That second project I just mention comes from a whole section in the book she offers which is called "Combining Resin With Polymer Clay". Everthing is so fascinating!

The author is straightforward in her writing style and her book is great, in the manner in which she assists the reader to take the intial steps toward learning how to create coated resin, casted, molded or combined medium resin jewelry.

Not only did she produce this super cool book, she has a website where you can pick up the things you will need to create you own jewelry (molds, resin, colors, powders, bracelet blanks, ring blanks and more) without going through the sometimes confusing process of wandering around in a local craft store or even two, looking here and there and checking and rechecking your list of required resin needs you have to obtain to get started. This book and her site will get you started. Who knows were you will end up!

I love this book! I am please with the saftey precautions she is careful to explain, I love the projects, and I feel that this is a terrific all around crafting book!

Easy Steps for Creating Lovely Jewelry

Well written and well researched. I especially liked the fact that the suppliers of materials needed for creating the projects in the book, were listed in the last part of the book. Sherri's instructions were easy to follow and the photos of each step were extremely helpful. It good that both advanced as well as beginners are able to use this book and come up with excellent results.
Many of the different techniques possible for using resin were explained which gives the reader the desire to jump in and start to make some lovely creations.

A great resource

This book takes the mystery out of working with resin. It explains mold-making in good detail and provides useful info for choosing the right raw materials. Not every artist can also teach, but Ms. Haab is skilled at both. The book is well laid out, not repetitive, and provides sample projects along with a list of necessary materials. Many of the projects are not my style preference, but written descriptions and pictures are clear and can be used for inspiration. Published in 2006, it is recent enough that the raw materials are still relevant and available.

One of the best study aids

This book breaks down Tort law tremendously. It was highly recommended by a second year law student and it totally helped when it came time for finals. It takes each section of the Prosser and Wade text and breaks it down into the most basic form. I'd recommend to all.

Emanuel Law Outlines: Torts

I am hooked on Emanuel Law Outlines and this book on Torts is no exception (I wish they would cost less). This soft covered text is over 500 pages and contains a capsule summary which gives you an overview of the sections which should be read first. Each chapter ends with a quiz (and answers and explanations). The book ends with Essay Exam Tips and Q's & A's. What can I say? I love these outlines!

Great study aid to use along with your class torts textbook. Emanuel boils down the law to the essentials and includes a summary outline in the beginning of the book for easy review and study. You get the law in a simple, concise way, saving you the trouble of trying to distill the law yourself from hundreds of convoluted, wordy opinions. Emanuel saved me from stressing out before midterms and gave me a reasonable grade.

About the Author
Frank H. Netter was born in New York City in 1906. He studied art at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design before entering medical school at New York University, where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1931. During his student years, Dr. Netter’s notebook sketches attracted the attention of the medical faculty and other physicians, allowing him to augment his income by illustrating articles and textbooks. He continued illustrating as a sideline after establishing a surgical practice in 1933, but he ultimately opted to give up his practice in favor of a full-time commitment to art. After service in the United States Army during World War II, Dr. Netter began his long collaboration with the CIBA Pharmaceutical Company (now Novartis Pharmaceuticals). This 45-year partnership resulted in the production of the extraordinary collection of medical art so familiar to physicians and other medical professionals worldwide.
Icon Learning Systems acquired the Netter Collection in July 2000 and continued to update Dr. Netter’s original paintings and to add newly commissioned paintings by artists trained in the style of Dr. Netter. In 2005, Elsevier Inc. purchased the Netter Collection and all publications from Icon Learning Systems. There are now over 50 publications featuring the art of Dr. Netter available through Elsevier Inc.
Dr. Netter’s works are among the finest examples of the use of illustration in the teaching of medical concepts. The 13-book Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations, which includes the greater part of the more than 20,000 paintings created by Dr. Netter, became and remains one of the most famous medical works ever published. The Netter Atlas of Human Anatomy, first published in 1989, presents the anatomic paintings from the Netter Collection. Now translated into 16 languages, it is the anatomy atlas of choice among medical and health professions students the world over.
The Netter illustrations are appreciated not only for their aesthetic qualities, but, more importantly, for their intellectual content. As Dr. Netter wrote in 1949 “clarification of a subject is the aim and goal of illustration. No matter how beautifully painted, how delicately and subtly rendered a subject may be, it is of little value as a medical illustration if it does not serve to make clear some medical point.” Dr. Netter’s planning, conception, point of view, and approach are what inform his paintings and what make them so intellectually valuable.
Frank H. Netter, MD, physician and artist, died in 1991.

The finest medical anatomy atlas available.

Frank Netter's atlas compiles his paintings of every imaginable human body part, seen in various degrees of dissection, into one volume. Dr. Netter's talent for reproducing the facts of anatomy is exquisite and unquestionable. However, as one looks a little deeper, it becomes clear that Netter is in fact a guru of function as well. Nerves, outlined in an unearthly yellow, terminate on muscles they actually innervate. Tendinous insertions are always on the correct part of bony protuberances, and fiber direction is always carefully detailed. Any unusual functional variances, such as the dual sympathetic/parasympathetic function of Vidian's nerve, or such as the pulley effect on the trochlear nerve, are always painstakingly pointed out. Netter also excels in variation, presenting, for example, 11 normal variants of the cystic and hepatic ducts.
The alternatives are few and inadequate. Pernkopf is often cited as Netter's chief rival; his experimentation on living persons incarcerated in Nazi concentration camps forbids me from perusing his text, on ethical grounds. Grant's atlas is laughably inadequate by comparison, both in number and quality of the plates. And Gray's, the old standby, simply cannot measure up; Netter's bold colors and functional depictions are clearly superior.
Rohen and Yokochi, a photographic atlas, offers the advantage of being photographs of superb dissections, and therefore more like what one encounters in the anatomy lab. Some find it useful as a supplement to Netter's atlas. I also used Moore's textbook of anatomy; the plates, from Grant's atlas, are not so good, but the text can be used to expand and illuminate on the relevant plates in Netter's, and the text is well written and clear. I found it indispensible to read a little bit about what I was looking at, the night before an anatomy lab.
I have also lent my Netter to several artists (sculptors and painters,) all of whom found it to be quite useful.

Netter's is the best "anatomy atlas" I've seen around

Honestly, I don't know what I would have done without Netter's. From the time that I bought it, anatomy became a much easier task for me. The reason mostly has to do with the way the figures are drawn. They are so clear (and lifelike) that a lot of times you don't even have to refer to any anatomy text to understand structural relationships. Each figure also usually labels most of the structures that are shown.

I'm not saying that all the figures are excellent. Probably 5-10 % of figures could be improved. But the rest are very good.

I should also say that this book is only an "atlas" and does not have any accompanied text; the index for structures is done in a weird way so usually it's hard to find the structure you're looking for; the book binding is very poor; and the coverage of X-ray, CT, and MRI is poor. There are also some occasional mislabeling errors.

But overall, it is the best anatomy atlas that I have seen, and because of Netter's work, I gave it 4 stars. However, considering all aspects of the book, I'll give it the following rating:

I have been a forensic pathologist for more than twenty years and refer to texts and atlases of anatomy on an almost daily basis. This is, by far, the best atlas I have ever used. Dr. Netter's genius lies in his being able to render complex anatomy in lucid and easily grasped pictures that still look like the real thing. He makes it appear effortless and his real brilliance can only be grasped by comparing his atlas to other (and usually more expensive) works that just do not measure up. I wish I had this atlas in medical school, but am delighted in being able to refer to it now. It is one of those pearls that every first year medical student, nursing student and paramedic simply must have in their personal library. It will prove indispensable in every stage of their careers.

About the Author
Mark Bishop lived in Okinawa for more than fifteen years, studying with, interviewing, and writing about many of the best-known Okinawan martial arts masters. Married to the daughter of a prominent Okinawan religious leader, he has been allowed unusul access to the inner teachings and opinions of many of the masters he has encountered. Upon his return to England, he established himself as an in-demand martial arts lecturer and teacher. He is the author of Zen Kobudo (Tuttle, 1996) and writes extensively for martial arts magazines. I needed to use this guide for a cadaver lab obviously, so I had little choice in whether I purchased the book or not. It was useful, but sometimes the video was so abbreviated that the HOW of some of the dissections was a little tricky to gather from what was accessible. Overall, it was money well spent, but I wish I had not had to purchase it.

Wonderful resource!!!

Claudette Finley was my instructor in a post-graduate physical therapy joint dissection program. I also had the privilege to be her teaching assistant for anatomy for one semester. I cannot say enough wonderful things about what a great teacher she is and what a valuable resource she has developed. (Not to mention, what a great person she is.) She put her considerable intellect and passion into teaching anatomy and other physical therapy classes and is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Over the years during her career as an anatomy instructor for the physical therapy program at the University of Florida, she developed her own material to teach dissection. Now it is available to others in book form through this text and DVD that Dr. Senesac and Dr.Bishop have evolved from Ms. Finley's original material. I am thrilled that future generations of physical therapists across the country can benefit from her and their expertise!

Two for the price of one

This book is really two in one. The first "Leisure, The Basis of Culture" and "The Philosophical Act."
The first book starts with the premise that "the foundation of Western culture is leisure." Something not easily appreciated in our hectic life. Yet the end point of this leisure is not laziness but celebration. "The most festive festival it is possible to celebrate is divine worship." I never thought of liturgy as leisure before I read this book. Pieper makes a wonderful point that liturgy does not serve any pratical purpose. Rather liturgy carries us into another dimenension. "Carried away out of the straitness of the workaday world into the heart of the universe."
In the second book, Pieper asks the question. "What does philosophizing mean?" For Pieper it means to step outside our everday world, "to see the stars above the roof, to preserve our apprehension of the universality of things in the midst of the habits of daily life." Wonderful!

One of the most important philosophical works of the 20th Century

Reading this brief book was a life-changing experience for me. Pieper, a philosopher in the tradition of St. Thomas Aquinas, leads the reader out of the barren world of endless busy-ness, direction-less activity, and enslavement to work, by revealing the crucial significance of leisure. Leisure is not at all idleness. It is contemplation of the wonder of the world around us and of the God who created all that is. This book is very important for those of us who are drowning in the frenzied, shallow, and ultimately meaningless world of purposeless work and soulless materialism. Pieper opens up to the reader the crucial importance of leisure, which is the key to discovering the wonder and purpose of our universe and the One who made it. Reading this book is a life-changing experience, and a powerful antidote to the soulless, frenzied chaos that dominates modern life. Leisure is not a mere vacation from work; it is the key to understanding why we exist. This is not an easy work--no masterpiece is--but it is well worth the effort it takes to understand the lessons Pieper teaches, lessons that will change your life.

a rethinking of Leisure

Leisure : the Basis of culture turned out to be a great surprise to me. I never thought this read to be the philosophical work that it was. I am no student of philosophy so i found the book to be a challenge to read but well worth it to work through. Like a good movie i don't want to spoil the finale for any one interested in picking this little book up. One thing i will say ; it will change the way you think of leisure once you grasp its true definition as intended by the ancients.
